Measure the head circumference (from ear to ear across the back) and use this guide:
• < 48 cm → 0-3 years
• up to 49 cm → 1-4 years
• 48-50 cm → 2-5 years
• 50-52 cm → 3-6 years
• 52-55 cm → 6-12 years
